Therapist enablement platform Headway is once again facing backlash from its clinician pool on its platform over a lengthy new contract the company rolled out last Thursday asking them to sign and agree to several new terms with a deadline. However, Headway quickly reversed its decision and walked back the contracts via an email sent by the company’s CEO, Andrew Adams, one day later stating that the company would pause the rollout of its new contract agreements.
Adams did not say when the company would send the revised contracts to providers in his email, only stating, “We sent out an updated Provider Agreement yesterday, and a lot of you wrote back, understandably. It was very reasonably interpreted in ways we never intended. This isn’t our standard, and I take responsibility.”
Those who have already reviewed and signed the updated agreement will have that document nullified and will be sent to the revised contract once it becomes available.
Behavioral Health Business contacted Headway with follow-up questions, but had not received a reply at the time of publication. This story may be updated.
Still, clinicians worry that the revised contract may contain some of the concerning provisions the original version did. The original document obtained by BHB asked clinicians on Headway’s platform to agree to several updates to their contracts as 1099-contracted employees, including:
- Relinquish rights over providers’ names, images, voices, and content indefinitely without any additional payment or prior approval.
- Providers who opt-in to Headway’s new marketplace option to add additional clients at a $9.99 fee per client obtained via this new method are forbidden to encourage patients sourced from the marketplace to leave Headway during their contract or for one year after that. However, opting out of the marketplace does not seem to remove the nonsolicitation restriction, according to the original contract language.
- Opt-in to using Headway’s designated documentation templates and agreeing to a release of liability for any errors or omissions in the templates.
